Car never wavers from 85, hot or cold weather, sat in traffic etc. but when towing up hill the gauge creeps up to 90, soon returns to 85 on the level.
What do you think?

Take 2 paracetamol and stay in bed for a few days.
Sounds like a well maintained coolant system to me.

Sounds normal to me (but thats just my opinion)

Where's that on the gauge? But I would say it's nothing to be overly concerned about... You are pulling a lot of weight with those 4 cylinders ::) ::) :D :D

With my 2.5 V6 those tempartures are standard for me, never changing! ;) ;) ;)
But for a 2.2, well it also sounds about right. :y

mine lately has returned to normal and always sits at 85, it still occasionally runs cool, but seams speed related :-/
under 60mph it sits 79ish, spank it up to 80, and stay there and its fine :-/ :-/
I usually drive every ware(except 30 limits) at 80 so its not a problem ;D
