Title: Cambelt change - day two
Post by: Varche on 20 May 2009, 11:50:38
I have posted 4 pictures in the test zone.

Have been out and armed with all the advice posted and PM'd to me (thanks everyone for the help and suggestions ) here is the status.

With the crank locked at TDC the best adjustment I can eachieve for banks 3&4 is out by an 1/8 inch to the right. For banks 1&2 the best is out to the right by 1/4 inch. Trying to adjust with the idlers just makes matters worse i.e. the belt moves further to the right on both banks.

I am open to suggestions but if I didn't have this forum, i would now be trying to get banks 3 and 4 correct so that I could insert the green locking tool ditto banks 1 and 2. To do that I would have to take the idlers off or loosen fully and move the cams using the belt till I got the locking tools in. Then I would take the belt off and refit it as though none of yesterday had happened. Is that a good idea ?

not seen your other posts, but due to direction the belt travels. No point even looking at 1 and 2 until you have 3and4 bob on to the setting plate. So adjust bottom idler until 3 and 4 are correct. Only then move on to 1 and 2. Hope that not stating the obvious? Will go see your pics now.

Left hand bank is a tooth out.

I would do as you plan.

Turn the engine over with the crank lock removed until the 1-2 bank aligns with the mark then fit the locking tools.
