Title: engine cut out on start
Post by: Terry_Seyforth on 19 May 2009, 12:17:00
Hi when you turn over the engine it fires then cuts out, you have to wait about 2 minutes then restart, it usually starts but on the odd occasion you have to wait about two minutes again. sometimes it will start on first ignition, but more often than not it wont.
Someone has said it could be a crank sensor, is this likely and if it is where exactly is this situated ? look like ?

when the car is running it seems ok.

I went in a car wash yesturday and the cycle had finished, but it took three attempts to get it going, the chap behind me thought I didnt know the wash had finished, so he was blowing his horn over and over, cheers mate.

I know car washes arent good for the paint work  :)

Then crank sensor (sensor end) is down on the bottom of the passengers side of the engine by the oil filter and runs up to behind the passengers side head where it has a connector on it...

cheers I shall have a look, but in your opinion does this sound like a crank sensor problem.

Its so unpredictable.

This morning it started first time, but went out tonight to the car tried to start it and it cut out, got to shops came out wouldnt start, second try it started.

It seems if it cuts out and you try to start it straight away it just turns over without starting, you have to wait a minute or two then it will start.

I've just had the same problem, pedal trick showed 0335 'Crank Shaft Sensor' refer to my posts of today re Starting Problem, and 'Crank Sensor'It may help. Mine is staying on the drive until fixed!

unfortunetly the pedal trick only comes up with imobiliser error. I took the emobiliser ages ago , the one that sounds if you take out the battery, or if is being stolen. It doesnt show any other errors ?

I have just been out to the car I looked down the back passengers side for the crank sensor, I was told it is near the oil filter, I cant see anything, do you have to look from underneath to view the sensor ? :-?
