Title: Noisy backend!!
Post by: Daz1111 on 22 May 2009, 20:12:09
I've got a 99 2.5v6 Est. and am suffering from a droning noise from the rear near side wheel. I had a new wheel bearing last Oct and have just had new tyres on the rear (it was making the noise before I changed them) - anybody got any ideas!

No, I think only one side was done - I'll check the other but it is definitely from the near side. When I go round a left hand bend it stops. It is worst between 30 - 45mph and has stopped by the time I hit 65!

The rear bearings are a dual pack, ie. inner and outer so the old check of which side bend you go round doesnt always work. It depends on which half of the bearing has gone. The only way to check really is to jack the car up and spin the wheel.
Did you change the last one yourself? Either way dont change both just cause one has gone, thats folk law and expensive. I changed mine myself, but it is quite a job without the vaux tools. I can give info if you need.
