It fell off the windscreen !
Have been out and purchased some loctite stuff (says it bonds mirrors to screens). But can't get it to bond. Have tried to get platform out of unit to bond that first, but won't come out. Even if it came out I can see no way of attaching mirror to platform. Also short wiring loom to mirror are not helping as it wants to push mirror away from bond. :(
Am I missing something, is there an easier way of getting it bonded back on the screen.
Any advice would be appreciated

Yes I agree, but question is, how does one get small metal plate out of housing, and once bonded how does the mirror attach to plate

The mirror just slides onto the plate that's stuck to the screen. In normal circumstances you'd grab the miror & slide it down the screen. :y

Jeeez, that was difficult to get out, metal piece now on screen will get rest on in morning. Hope it goes on a bit easier

I used Locktite's Glassbond years ago on my Carlton (same idea - different type of bracket). I did go into Vauxhall at the time to ask what they used. Parts lad said he could sell me a bonding kit ....... IIRC it was over £20 :o :o , and that must've been a good 15 years back. :y :y

Yep. This is a bit of a bu66er.
I knocked my mirror with my elbow a while back. it fell off but took a chunk of glass out of the windscreen with it. :'(
After assessing all adhesives. I used a glass resin that Maplins sell online. Needs UV to set. However I use UV lights at work so left it a day or so with a light inside as glass is UV absorbing.
The mount was solid and worked fine.
Or so I thought.
Got in the car yesterday to find it hanging down again. Think it was the heat.
So am now stumped at what to try. short of a replacement windscreen.

if it took a chunk of glass with it I wouldn't hesitate in getting a replacement screen providing my insurance was paying.
And if they wouldn't play ball ......... I'd get a stone chip in the ara swept by the wipers. ;) ;) ;) ;)
My Manta had a new screen years when I hit it with a centre pop got a stone thrown up on my screen. I kept finding bits of toughened glass forever and even a cone shaped bit from where the 'stone' had hit it! ;D ;D :y

That screen is now seriously weakened and, IMHO, dangerous. It can't be repaired with a bit of glue/filler.. it needs replacing :(
Insurance should pay ... you just tell them a bird hit the screen and the mirror fell.

Provided there's no stilleto heel marks in the roof lining, you'll get away with that excuse! :y :y :y ::)

i think you should get a new windsceen.its a waste of time repairing it.if you are fully com insurance you will have to pay the access [usualy £50 quid] sounds like a bird flew into it ?if you no what i mean .if you keep useing it with the damage screen you will get in the car one day shut your door and get a crack on the screen.get it done mate i would if it was me :y
