Title: MOT Due
Post by: Swampey on 26 May 2009, 20:29:44
Guys

MOT is due 20-06-09

I am in a sticky wicket... seem the rear exhaust box has rusted more than sure the rear tail pipe coming out of the rear box is fubar.... to cap that all off I can see a rust point on the mid section box ( near side of the car )

Anyone had to replace part or all of the exhaust system and whats the best price you got...

Not sure if Im getting in a flap about something small, but me thinks a knacked exhaust in a mot fail... not that the rear box is blowing

As above, the MOT test only checks that the system is secured to the vehicle and is not leaking anywhere between the cylinder head and the tailpipe.

ALL the MOT test proves is that the testable items were functioning correctly at the time the test was carried out.
It doesn't mean the vehicle is in good condition, it doesn't mean it is safe...in fact, the MOT certificate isn't worth the paper it is written on.

It will all depend on the tester, if they think the box is knackered it could fail, Kwik fit are notorious for this, they'll give an advisory for anything they sell, and could possibly persuade you to buy. IMHO take it as it is, and then only pay out for bits that fail, otherwise you could pay out for a lot of unecessary work.
