Title: Cambelt change interval?
Post by: mathewst on 29 May 2009, 08:57:33
Ok read a few times the interval for cambelt change was reduced etc....
What interests me is... Is this the sam problem on all Migs or there are differences depending on the engine etc

40k or 4 years on all.
If you're that worried about your cambelt kit, pop over and I'll change it for you :y

I seem to remember that my service book says every 80k but I was told that it was changed to every 40k because the tensioner wouldn't last 80k.
When I did mine last the car had done 81K and it started to make a funny noise from the cam belt cover area. I decided to take it off the road straight away and change the belt. Glad I did as the tensioner was knackerd. Could have fallen to bits at any time. :o

James thanks but changed mine recently.
Actually changed it two times in one month >:( cause the second time waterpump broke (mechanic didn't change it the first time)
The car did 80 000 km (50 000 mile) on old belt withoun any problems, but I changed it immediately when bought the car as a precaution.
I thought the cambelt issue was only on v6 models so I asked

did you also change the tensioner and pulley while changing the timing belt?? It's strongly recommended to change the full kit - which means belt + tensioner + pulley. And they need to be changed every 40k miles or 4 years whichever comes first WITHOUT FAIL!
