Title: My heater stinks!
Post by: SMD on 30 May 2009, 19:29:34
My heater stinks when I turn it on. Sometimes it smells even when its off. It smells of old socks  :-[ I bought one of them ambi pur things which masked the smell at first and now its back.

Any idea why this could be?

You'll have your own eco system growing in & around your A/C system. Try one of the aerosol things specifically for A/C

This type of thing ...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-AIRCON-CLEANER-CONDITIONING-A-C-AIR-CON-GERM-KILLER_W0QQitemZ310143698033QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4836014471&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A4%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A200

You normally run your A/C on recirc, put the can in the rear foot well & discharge it and then shut the door. You leave it to run for 5 mins or so.

where in the rear footwell? on the carpet or vents? or just discharge it anywhere and being on recirc it finds its way in the system?

instruction on the tin but those I've used you just stand up on the floor of the rear foot well and discharge it. It discharges in one go, you don't need to keep your finger on the button to discharge it. The re-circ circulates it through the heater etc of the car.

When I remember I'll post which one I've used before ....... but I'm having a senior moment!  ;D  ;D

Yes! :y Although it wasn't too bad in the first place. I know which smell you mean though, my Senator's a/c used to have a bit of a pong when you first ran it.  :y
