Title: Quick question on EGR
Post by: lou on 30 May 2009, 15:04:23
When I remove EGR will I need a new gasket or can I reuse the old one and do I just fill the biggest hole with some cleaning agent or both holes?

I had problems with my EGr on and off and bit the bullet and removed it. I then made a blanking plate out of a fairly thick sheet of metal and refitted the EGr and used some blue gasket goo left over from over 30 years ago. Still going strong. I tried cleaning the inside of the EGR but gave up as I was blanking it off.

No symptons at the moment, just perhaps for some routine maintenance or if it aint broke should I not fix it?

im not qualified to answer these questions, but by default I would say that its worth a shot to reuse the old shim gasket, based on the fact that the torque on the bolts are limited.. As long as it looks fine visually of course..:)
