Title: arrgh, ignition key problem with the mig
Post by: Bacon Butty Man on 02 June 2009, 15:39:21
got in it earlier to collect the kids and the key wouldnt turn in the barrel, not even to position one, i am assuming the bvarrel hath collapsed inside wise, i have rung arong various breakers in the area and the only ones available are from an astra, would they fit, if not, what others would fit the omega, its a 99 (s), and are they easy to remove, taking into account the barrel wont turn at all.

Same problem i had a few weeks ago...i looked around all the vauxhalls in the scrap yard and they seem to have a different angle to them on the omega, mine ahd been pulled apart so i needed the full thing including the colum lock, dont forget when you get one to swop the chip from your existing key over to the new key else she wont go it will screw up the immobiliser dont know if its any help but Roger Windley's in Tattershall Lincolnshire has got about 6 Omegas in think they do postal spares (01526) 342555 gibe him a try

Ahhhh....headless chicken mode enabled eh!  ;D

Get some good lubricant in the barrel (i.e. not WD40 shite) and give the key and steering wheel a wiggle.

What happens is that some of the tumblers get pushed up as you withdraw the key and become stuck with with all the gummy crap that tends to accumalate in the cylinder over the years. if you dip the key in a bit of petrol and push it in and out a few times it will free it   :y
