Title: Complete loss of power but no fault code?
Post by: Burtle on 02 June 2009, 18:47:11
As per the title really, this isn't a problem when cold only after a few miles and the engines warmed up to normal operating temp. The engine is a 3.0L V6 on a 98 plate.

Every so often when trying to accelerate the engine won't pick up and just maintains it's current rev's. If you then let off the peddle and put it back down it may pick up or die completely. When working acceleration seems to come in bursts and is not smooth like it used to be?

I've paper clipped it and get no codes other than the start and end 12.

I'm guessing the coil pack is on it's last legs, any other thoughts? I'll change the plugs and leads first but the coil pack seems more likely.

The only thing that confuses me is that if it were a miss fire the engine would "feel" rough but it doesn't, it's a smooth loss of power when ever it does it.

Cheers
Nath

Could well be crank shaft sensor...doesnt always produce a code in early stages of failure
