The trip computer in our Elite shows a greater range as the fuel level drops, can anyone tell me why & how to fix this fault.
-
have you tried resetting it ?and what is the consumption reading? :-/
-
Yep, tried the reset.
Consumption is 42.1mpg after a long leisuerly motorway run last weekend. Inst. Consumption fluctuates as it should.
-
The range on the computer will grow if you driven in town congested traffic previously then went on on an open road.
Car will consume fuel but the range will go up because of the significant difference in consumptio0n-

so the computer is talking 'dangle berries' then ;D
Press and hold R and S for 3s, and post up the 3 numbers that appear on display....
-
Held the buttons in for 3secs and got code 003 on the display. Hope this helps.

I think the MID has been changed at some point, as that MID is programmed for a 2.5 diesel with a manual box. Seeing as I've never seen an Elite with a 2.5TD with a manual box........
-
Ok, now it makes sense, it was replaced years ago (still have the original one.)
Does anyone repair the MIDs as we have some missing pixels & the the local stealer wants a mortgage for the replacement?
-
Don't know of anyone who repairs them. If your replacement is good, it can be reprogrammed to match car

This is quite normal. The range shown depends on how the car has been driven for the past 7 and 21 miles, how much fuel is in the tank, and the fuel quality.
If I fill my 2.5 V6 CDX during a long motorway journey, the range will be about 470 miles. Depending on how I drive for the next 100 miles that figure can go as high as 640 miles, or will drop rapidly.
If you give it welly up a long hill the numbers will drop rapdly, but will climb again as you go down the other side.
The important point is, the numbers should drop to zero as the tank becomes empty. I did once try mine out to see how many miles it would run after reaching '0 miles', and it did les than two miles before running out, so the system works!

Thanks for the reply Nigel, but I don't believe that we would get over 500 miles from an indicated 20 litres of petrol.
Our range always increases as the tank empties, from about 450 miles on a full tank.

That does seem extreme. What happens when the tank is nearly empty? Mine gives a low fuel warning when the range is down to about 10 litres / fifty miles (in the red on the fuel guage), and the fuel pump icon starts flashing orange when the range gets down to 21 miles.
-
As the car is only realy used for longer trips we don't allow it to run much below the 20l mark.

In this case, its running the wrong program config, so will produce weird errors.

Why? It can only calculate expected range based on the present fuel level and the consumption over the past few miles. Ergo 'Range' prediction can go up or down.

Its the consumption bit that it gets horribly wrong, and it confuses the poor thing.
I only just got around to reprogramming mine (I swapped mine with Hotel21 a few weeks ago to prove a fault), my range was creeping up to 1300 miles from a tank. Not bad for a 3.0l auto ;D

Excellent! Can you do mine for me? :y :y ;D ;D

You can do mine too!
What you are describing is clearly a fault. Mine works perfectly well with the numbers going up and down, which is what I was trying to explain. I can guarantee that not only does it go down to zero miles, it runs out of petrol soon afterwards too! :-[ :)

LOL, my old MID would do at least 18m beyond 0, but that was at 60mph down the M40 ::)
Not been brave enough to do another similar test ::)
