Title: Hairy Exhaust
Post by: Goonybird on 05 June 2009, 19:15:02
Came home tonight to find this hanging out of the rear pipe.  :-?

I had some similar a week ago and pulled it out thinking the kids had stuck a hairpiece up my exhaust.
So now appears to be the sound deadening material?
Am i ferked, or do I just leave it.
Or does it need a brazilian  :D

It is your baffles gone , you can leave it if you wish, but maybe a little noisey.

Mine ran like a bag of...... when that happened to me. If you put your hand by the exhaust there was almost no gas coming out. Under full load it sounded like a tyre going down as the pressure in the system was escaping wherever it could.

Had exactly the same about a month ago. I'm told its the silencer part for the Back Box of the exhaust. I had to replace my whole exhaust. :(

Depending upon the state of the rest of it you may get away with just a new back box. :y

I agree with Gareth, mine was actually from one of the centre boxes.

Came across a guy in a Saab convertible in a petrol station in Ireland a couple of weeks back. He was standing behind his car staring at what looked like a toupe on the floor with a puzzled look on his face.

Eventually I had to put him out of his misery and point out that his back box was breaked. ;)

My back box sheared off Wednesday. I've been quoted £85.00 for a "cheap 'n' chearfull" jobbie.
Can't see the point in having the box in the 1st place.  The exhaust doesn't sound loud or booming. Didn't even notice it had gone.
All I noticed was the tell-tale "clonking" sound as the box would catch the road now and again.

this happened to my old vtec civic but only small bits of hair came out it went like a dog with my brothers 1.2 corsa keeping up with it and eventually my back box exploded spliting at the seems.

Same happened to mine a couple of months before I bought it, only it got to the stage where the backbox blew itself to bits (literally), which resulted in the fuel tank being pierced as well.

@ Goony,

I'd change it sooner rather than later if I were you.
