Title: throtle body cleaning??
Post by: mathewst on 09 June 2009, 13:24:32
Can you simply spray a little carb cleaner in the throtle without taking it of the engine?
Will this do any harm?
Cannot take the throtle body off cause no gasket is available in the country and have to wait two weeks to get it from germany >:(

Gasket? Mine uses two green o-rings. Is that what you say is not available in your country?

Just seen yours is a 2.2, so don't know how different it is to V6, sorry.

It looks like a headgasket, there is a pic in maintenace section on page 4.
So was thinking of just spraying some cleaner onto a body (cause cant wait two weeks) but need to know can I do it like this
Also I need to clean the egr valve, know there is "how to" but looks like its a real bugger to remove it

no you really need to remove it, when you tip it upside down and clean under the butterfly you will find a very small air hole, and this will deffo be blocked, need to push a small pin/needle into it and unblock, can not be done in situ, just done mine at the weekend, easy job  :y

i've always just used a bit of gasket sealent and never had a problem  :y
as long as both faces are very clean and dry then i can't see any problems.

If you put the original new part do you also need to put the sealant or not?

i don't think a little bit of sealant will hurt  :y

just make sure the faces on the parts are clean  :y
