Title: Heavy Steering
Post by: holtender on 09 June 2009, 10:09:55
Bought a new 2.5 for the wife last month, she has been moaning about the heavy steering .

Is this a sypmton of a steering pump on its way out or something else?

Any suggestions?

The assistance is adjustable via tech2 but, in the first instance, check the tyre pressures and for possible tyre wear.....

Are all your fuses present & correct? Don't forget there's an electrical speed senstive input to your steering aswell, although I'd have expected other elctrical things to not be working too.
Failed/failing pumps tend to be haphazard in their assisstance, although you can't neccessarily rule it out.  :y

DOH!(http://www.autobahnstormers.org/forum/images/smiles/duh.gif) Tyre pressures!
Why didn't I think of the most obvious first?  ::)

Check your cigarette lighters work - they're on the same circuit as the electrical assistance for the power steering.

If they don't then you've blown the fuse (green 20A under the steering wheel in my car).
