Hi,
Just went out at lunch in my 2.2 16v omega. It was misfiring badly, especially pulling away, had no guts in it until speed was built up and the engine light came on and was flashing.
Any ideas? Feel like i am loosing the battle with this car.

It did this last week only for a minute but cleared up. The rear silencer has a leak on it which i was going to get replaced this week.

I would check your plug wells for water, not uncommon on 2.2's

Car was parked downhill and it did rain last nite.
Could exhaust be a cause?

2 minutes to check...
open your bonnet, unplug connector at end of ecotec strip
2 torx bolts to remove, and lift out coil pack....
I reckon you will find puddles.
kitchen towel / synthetic chamois or similar dunked in the holes to such it all out, and leave to dry.
reassemble and hope for the best.

If there is water, you need to find where its coming in.
few possibilities - windscreen seal
scuttle - where big and small peice join, water can leak over seal here, into spoungy insulation just below, and drips from here onto engine
squeezing this spounge will tell you instantly if this is a possiblity :y
if its soggy - likely your plugs are too

not sure off the top off my head sorry, you can check the sponge insulation at any point, no tools needed for that, will let you know if this is likely to be the problem :y

Ok mate. will check as soon as i get home. Hope this is the problem as I cant afford anymore big repair bills.

Yes, all the plug wells were full of water. And the spongy insulation on the drivers side of engine was soaked.
I did my best to empty the wells of water using kitchen towel.
The car now runs pretty good. Was abit lumpy to begin with but after a couple of minutes it was fine. The engine light is now on though.
How easy is it to rectify the insulation/scuttle panel?
I will now be reversing my car on the sloped drive in the future lol

IIRC, the engine light will clear after a certain amount of start and stops.

Least youve found the problem
Light should go out as soon as car is happy, may need to get hot to fully dry out.
I fixed ours just using silicone sealer where the 2 scuttle pieces meet.
I think AutoAddict had a windscreen seal that needed renewing.

Hi again,
Car was running much better today bu still had the odd sluggish moment. I took the coil pack out again to check and there was abit of moisture still in there so i made sure it was fully dry.
I have also noticed on the coil pack that each rubber sleeve which slides over each plug is split. Could this cause rough running also?

I would change the plugs also after such misfiring issue, especially when there has been water in plugwells... the plugs will corrode very quickly.
