Title: heating queery
Post by: Richie London on 10 June 2009, 19:52:57
my temp runs at between 92 and 95 degrees, when i sit in the traffic it rises to the red as far as it can go then drops to normal as soon as i pull away. ive lost about a litre and a half driving to bognor and back but no visible signs if a leak, checked the usual places when hot. cant tell ir the inner fan is not kicking in at all but im not getting hot air in the cabin, no water inside so not the matrix. i topped the water up this morning, been driving about a bit today but no loss of water.

any ideas please??

Could it be an air lock?

have you had any work done to the car recently ?
i'd check to see if the top water pipe is presesurised when its hot  :y
sounds like it could have a air lock to me mate  :y
im sure a few of the more experienced lads will be along shortly to add to that  :y

the way i see it, if your not getting heat in the cabin even though the engine is hot then i'd be looking at the heater matrix.

Something blocked causing a leak?

If it's leaking and you can't see where it's either collecting somewhere out of sight or evaporating before you see it.

While you've got the HBV off, i'd give the heater matrix a blast out with a hosepipe just to be sure its clear. Check the plug is connected to the main fan correctly, i had the same problem with the temp going up and it wasn't pushed fully on so the fan never started
