Think the solenoid you are looking for is the one with the brown and white wires.

They have to be worth chucking in a maint guide!

Thanks Andy spot on, sorry they were your photos, just the job.

Yes as said the white and brown wire is the one 'sassanach' suggests, how do they fit, are they esay to change, would a secondhand one be ok ?

they are held in by a roll pin, get some mole grips on it & give a good tug & twist :y
-
Could I take you up on the offer of a good secondhand solenoid ?

yup, thats fine mate :y, can anybody confirm that the solenoids are identical, i left wires on them anyway richard but would be nice to know just for future reference :y

Blimey ! Whilst i had NO clue as to what the inside of a gear box would look like....I sure as hell wouldn't have thought it would have looked ANYTHING like that. Amazing.

valve bodys, plates of alloy with hydraulic oil ways machined into them. The solenoids, activated by the ecu, open and close the oil ways which activate gears clutches and stuff that sit behind the valve bodys.... afaik. So the pic only shows about a 3rd of the story. And my description probably is about a 5th of all the other stuff that goes on. Torque converters, no idea how that works, none what so ever. Seem a cut away of one, still no idea. Would love to pull a box to bits one day and see how it works, just not mine please god, finger crossed, touch wood.

ive just dug out the solenoids & looked at the wire colours, the brown & white as mentioned seems to be brown & light grey, just hope ive got the right one as all the others have nothing close to brown/white :-/ & want to send the correct one ;)

Have a read here ... quite a way down, top bit is manual gearboxes, then auto's then torque converters .. :)

I've taken auto boxes apart and it is fascinating. Never got them back together again mind....
