I had engine management light turned on 10 days ago, the car did loose a little power.
Some suggested it could be the cam sensor on its way out. I had it turned on again only once in the last ten days. It disappeared when turned the car off and on again. Although now car looks like its working fine but somehow it doesnt feel like its up to full power. I will have the codes read next week hopefully. How much does this sensor cost if anyone knows? Is this the same one as crank sensor??
I saw this link on ebay so will anybody confirm is this the one I'm talking about
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vauxhall-Omega-B-1994-2003-2-2-Crank-Sensor_W0QQitemZ330323798450QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4ce8d529b2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50
If its not does anyone have a part number for this?
Thanks in advance for any help you may give

Don't know what the part number on the Ebay listing relates to but the part number listed on the Trade Club website is 90520850

Auto Addict said the car goes into limp mode cause of this sensor. Can anyone explain (describe) this limp mode a little better
-
Limp mode restricts the rev's to 2500rpm i think it is
Just enough to get you to the side of the road safely
My last 2.2 did the same thing...light would come on,but if you switched the car off locked it with the key and started again it would go out......
Turned out it was the sensor which is located in with the timing belt (i assume thats crank sensor, can anyone confirm)
-
Sensor adjacent to the top of timing cover is the cam sensor :y
-
Thats the one then! :y
Looks like a hook type thingy.... ;D

No, thats the crank sensor. You want the cam, it looks like a fork! ;D (ish)
-
Does anyone have a pic og this sensor or the location of it on the engine?
I know I'm a bit boring and sorry for that
-
its at the front, the black eco tech strip, there is a cable popping out at the front near the cam cover, its that.
You need to pop the aux belt & cam cover off to release the bolt holding the sensor in.
-
Do you need to change the aux belt after that?
Mine aux belt is new.
Changed 1000 km ago
-
no, re-using the old one is fine, just make sure it goes back on the same way it came off.
-
4k for limp mode...
Cheers Tunnie :y

Not always the case, but have seen many times a pattern sensor not fix problems, fail early, cause other issues.
There are of course ones out there that will be fine, just not always a safe bet, sometimes price makes them the only option, but when only a small difference like most of them, we have seen far too often people having to buy cheap, then the original, and fight for a refund.
"Buy Cheap, Buy twice"
few pattern items known to be problematic, to more than 1-2 users:
HBV
Streering Idler
drop links
crank sensors
brake disks
hid bulbs
lambda sensors
brake light bulbs
of course not a definitive list (just a few I can recall off the top of my head) , and there are plenty of people out there who have some of these working perfectly. And also some people with genuine items have had problems too.

I know that Iain but wanted to check is it the same sensor and not sam universal type
-
JimBob you didn't put cam sensor in your list
-
JimBob you didn't put cam sensor in your list
for the reason I can only think of a few 2.2 cam sensor issues, and don't remember anyone trying / failing with a 3rd party sensor.
Used to pay a bit of attention to em, as we had a 2.2.
That doesnt mean they are fine, just I can't recall an issue.
from TC website...
Camshaft sensors
2.2 90520850 £68.00 £61.30 £52.90
so £52+ on tradeclub, have you seen how much 3rd party are?
-
Called the shop here, didn't ask is it original or replacement but the price was around 40 pounds
-
not a huge difference.
If it was me, and £10-15 difference, I would go for the genuine.
I dont know what you would have to pay for that though, given your location, or the availability of genuine parts
-
Actually there is no problem with parts here cause if it's not available immediatelly it comes within a day or two directly from Germany
-
I know that Iain but wanted to check is it the same sensor and not sam universal type
You said in your previous post that you knew it was for an Omega....
So i assumed you wanted to know the difference between the 2 price wise
-
Iain it is possible to find some universal type sensors, actually they seel them as a part for your car, and actually it doesnt fit like it should.
But what I wanted to know was is there any good reason why not to buy the replacement part, except quality of course.
-
Well if you buy a Genuine GM part, you know its going to fit and work properly
:y
-
I agree, just hope the stealers wont rip me off for it, cause if its to expensive replacement part will be the choice
-
hi guys
be awaire of cheep alternatives on your cam sensor
i ordered one from E-Bay for my 2.2 CD Auto did not make any differance in fact made my car worse.
