Engine is ticking when cold..
Loud ticking from cold start to approx. 3-4min after.... 5000km since last oil change.. Slight oil consume, I would guess 1liter on 5000km..
Any advice?

sure it's not exhaust manifold gasket?

my first 2.5 omega used to tick when it was cold for about 5 min changed manifold gaskets it was fine and just finished changeing my mates on his 3.0 no more ticking just been looking through my book on oil consumtion 2.6 and the3.2 use 0.6 liters every 1000km same fo 2.2

Oh yeah.. I DID repair the exhaust manifold just a few months ago; welded a very long crack, and changed studs/nuts, although since the gasket was fairly new and only run for a few months (perhaps 2000km) I considered the gasket to be in good shape, so I decided to use it again... Perhaps this was a bad choice.... I will check! thanx!

Had similar on mine - thought it sounded like a hydraulic lifter - couple of oil and filter changes cured it :y

I've had this on mine since I've had it, around november. Went to a reading meet and robsymv6 heard it and mentioned something about the hydraulic valve lifter's, strange thinng is though it had a service in december which involved an oil/filter change. Once warm it's silky smooth. Is it causing any damage when it tocks?

Change the oil again. It can take a couple of changes to settle. Use vx oil, cheap, esp on trade club and is the best stuff to use. See vx trade club card card link below, 20 quid but will easily save you money long turm.

What's the consensus on replacing the manifold gaskets: do it with heads in situ or remove them on the basis that the studs will probably snap anyway? Mine's always ticked for a couple of minutes from cold and the nuts on the downpipe studs look knackered so I know mine will be trouble even before I get the heat shields off and investigate further.

Hate to ask this question, but whats VX oil?
I googled a bit, found something called Shell VX.. Is this what you are refering to?
I must admit.. Due to 2 quick oil/filter changes in a few months to clean up engine, I did not want to spend too much money on oil. So basically I have been running the car on a cheap semisynthetic 10W-40 oil from manufacture "Biltema" for a while.. Probably not healthy for this old lady...

Vauxhall oil! As said before, dead cheap with trade discount at dealers and good stuff. It's 10/40 semi-synth same as what you've used so you won't have done the engine any harm.

Changed the oil and filter.. topped it of with oil, ta-da ticking is gone:)
