Title: A funny thing happened at the Supermarket
Post by: Auto Addict on 22 July 2006, 20:02:38
There was this Elite Estate parked with the driver and his wife just loading the shopping.

I remarked on the condition, very well kept with a personalised number plate, got chatting and mentioned this forum.

He seemed very interested, and said he would have a look when he got home.

Could have a newbie.

Where ever you go, you're never too far from a WiFi point. Even if sometimes I do have to get out the hacking utils.... ;)

Well I am in a small village in the south of Italy which isn't even on the map. I asked about ADSL and the guy in the local IT shop said it was coming 'next month' - then one of the locals said he has been hearing this 'next month' story for the past year.... so I'm on 33.6k and this is a very expensive way of collecting post counts!

I want to go broadband but this would mean loosing ISDN first and I don't want to lose that!

So I will have to go BT sometime as they reckon they can do same day

Pray, why do you still want that ISDN rubbish? Couldn't wait to get rid of mine and replace with broadband...

As I don't want modem in between - too slow even when comparing to ISDN

Most ISPs can arrange the conversion and DSL install so you'll only be on modem for a few days.

Unless you are uploading a lot, a modem is usually around 3/4 of speed of single channel ISDN.

I only managed 2 channel ISDN twice and that was quite quick - using a router which forgot the PC was there.

I moved to my own ISP just after using the BT home highway USB lead, and this was a lot more reliable but could never get two channel.

I had ISDN for work reasons and predated broadband available.

I have gone from joint fastest home internet at work to second slowest, as BB was available at work before home despite work being in a village and me living on the outskirts of a medium town.

I have always found ISDN about 2x faster at least than modem perhaps it is the return path as well
