mot in 3 weeks, have a highlight/field of vision fault i guess it will fail on the beam to low, done the usual checks all looks ok, is it possible to tell which one has failed, or is it strictly tech 2. with the price of the new style ones i could do without buying one i dont need !

If its a single headlamp that has failed internally .. you can usually see this by driving up to a wall with the lights on. The light will be fully down fully on the failed one. If both are fully down it may well be a level sensor problem .. they sometimes "pop out" and can be reseated and held in with a cable tie as a temporary fix.
If the sensors look good it may be worth just unbolting in turn and seeing if by moving the arm the lights follow ... to find out which it is...
Light level sensors are
front : left hand wishbone very easy to get at with the wheel off
rear : left hand suspension - but almost in the centre of the vehicle !!

Tech2 or "My Naff Code Reader" will tell you what the system is complaining about but firstly have you checked the sensors on the front & rear nearside see if the arm has popped off either one.

both the sensors connected ok all the cables are connected and dont look damaged anywere i can see,
next step unbolt the arms and see if anything is happening am i right in asuming the sensors do individual headlights, ie front for left hand headlight and rear for right hand ???

I've got the same problem. No activity from the headlight motors, re-greased the level sensors but I get the error every time I turn on the ignition. I'm hoping to get the error codes read as this appears to be the only solution. Not sure whether Tech2 is the only solution to this

NO .. :( they both send signals that correspond to the "levelness" (I know .. no such word !!) of the car, the ECU then works out how much to tweak the lights ... AFAIK it sends the same signal to both lights.
The reason for front and rear is simple ... imagine going over a speed bump ... front suspensiion first then rear .. the lights must be motored for each to avoid blinding oncoming vehicles.

When you say cable tie as a temporary fix, does that mean a cable tie around the sensor / bracket holding the top arm in place at the back of the sensor?
That's where mine has popped out and looks as though it would easily pop out again, so thats where I've put a cable tie.
