hi all sorry if this question has been asked before i have just nicely got my second omega elite on a 51 plate i have been told that both of my front wish bones needs replaceing cos they are leaking oil and this is causeing my tyres to run off on the in side edge every time i brake is this true are they filled with oil for extra dampning or are they just a standerd bush and is the garage trying to con me kind regards bri

its certainly a common issue re tire wear and wishbone play. But not sure about the oil part. If you have tire wear on the inside edge it would certainly suggest new parts needed. Have they given you a quote for this out of interest?
And the car will need full geometry set up once the work is done. See the oof map for a company nearest you, maybe someone knows the password for it?

Wishbones are not oil filled :)
Could be shocks leaking or oil leaking onto wishbone rubbers ? :-/

Hmmm, I have just replaced one of my wishbones because there was a lot of play in the rear bush, also, when I applied a crowbar, the bush actually "Squelched"! I assumed it had originally been filled with oil or Silicone. Perhaps mine has a leaking shock then, I do still have a "Clunking" noise from that side. ::)
-
Did you replace the anti-roll bar link at the same time as these are a source for clunking too.
-
Well the pattern wishbones on mine certainly had some sort of oil leak from them on the first few weeks. Definately from the bush and not anywhere else. Can only assume it was something they used to fit the bushes into the arm at manufacture.
-
The bushes are fluid filled.
And inside edge tyre wear is likely to be caused by incorrect camber

NO! That looks like a good place to start then. Thanks. :y

Thank you. :y

Yep, just replaced mine again after 18months as the front bushes were leaking oil >:(
-
bushes are fluid filled??????? the engine mountings have a fluid sac in them but the wishbones i dont think so as they are a type of void bush front and a solid bush rear??

I have no other way of explaining the oil around the front bush because the whole surrounding area is bone dry :-/

Exactly the same as mine. Where did you get the wishbones from?

Both OE & pattern?

thought the engine mounts were silly-cone filled, would be kinda cool to think the wishbones are too, but never disected them. I'll have a slash in the scrapyard, to see.
After I've had a slash i'll probably cut up some suspension bushes too :y
-
I think some are fluid filled and some aren't. I've replaced my wishbones a few times, sometimes there's some fluid leaking out. Other times the bush has disintegrated but is dry.

I have done now, job done. :y

Ok everyone Bri's car has arrived at my house, for some reason I seem to have alot of mechanical knowledge on suspension, must be something to do with what i drive...
Anyhow, taking off the drivers wheel, I notice a bolt that goes through the bush at the rear of the wishbone, it has a nut at the bottom, and possible a bolt that is hidden in the subframe, it would need to 'go up' to release the rear of the wishbone.
Question: do we need to drop front subframe to change wishbones, to get to that bolt?
/not a vauxhall owner(yet), but more time spent under my car that what it deserves...
