Title: HELP HELP HELP 2.6 v6 engine completely locked
Post by: marty31 on 01 July 2009, 22:04:41
Hi everyone i am new in here but not new to Omegas, i have just bought a 52 plate 2.6 v6 with what i was told a snapped cambelt, when it arrived i had a look over it and the cambelt is on but when i tried to turn the engine over by hand it goes so far but then completely locks up(i was thinking maybe conrod) it took 3 litres of water and seems to have oil in it so i have no idea why it would let go, anyway if anyone can help me find an engine i will appreciate it, i am located near Manchester airport but i can travel for the right engine "PRICE"
Thanks everyone for reading this and thank for any help you can give me.

The belt is on but is the timing right?

belt could have jumped due to failed tensioner. You may find a load of stripped belt teeth in the bottom of the cover, for what its worth.

If you can find a 3.2 lump its practically a straight swap afaik. Not done it myself but i know of another member who has. :-)

My last 2.6 went pop when the crankshaft pulley worked loose and then broke the woodruff key off! OUCH.

From experience, I would just replace the engine.

a bit off topic, but there seems to be quite a few folks having problems with 2.6's giving up - are they any more feagile than any of the other variants?

Or is it just me being paranoid?

Paranoid

Mine survived a cam pulley slip with no damage

The cambelt is on and all teeth are in tact that i can see, when i turn the engine over it will go about half a turn forward and backward, doe anyone have any more info on the 3.2 lump going straight in, is there no problems with ancils or wiring harness??
Also when i get a new engine this unit is surpless so if anyone needs any heads or anything else that may be salvageable its free to a good home if you can collect. i am near manchester airport

RobsyMv6 swapped his 2.6 for a 3.2. Think ive spelled his name right.  Think he got ex plod and broke the rest of the car for parts.

What did you do with the rest of the engine?

Sounds like some teeth have slipped and now a piston is hitting the valve(s) as you turn the engine. Have you got a timing tool from the cambelt kit? You might need to take off the belt and carefully get the engine back to TDC.

On a related note, I might try and make a keyhole camera gadget that can be inserted into the spark plug hole to see if the valve is contacting with the piston. Usefull tool?

I have started to strip it down now and there was water in the pipes leading into the plenum chamber, i think water has got in and the engine has hydrauliced, also when i have taken the inlet manifold off you can see some rust marking on number 2 inlet, i would'nt be suprised to see a conrod through the block the more i strip it down. Hopefully i have sorted an engine out with Robsey but i have'nt heard back yet so if anyone else knows where there is a 2.6 v6 engine around for not crazy (ebay) money let me know. i will have a couple of heads once i am finished, if anyone wants them then pick them up i am near manchester airport
