Title: clutch overheated ?
Post by: pjtomega on 04 July 2009, 19:31:04
Hope someone can advise whether my clutch is just over heated or worn out ?
Been messing around practising reversing and testing turnig circle etc with trailer and rear bike rack - in readiness for camping hols in 2 weeks.
So i'd been riding the clutch for a fair bit. Anyway it started to smell a bit so stopped.

Now the clutch pedal is a stiff as hell and i cant engage any gears except when engine is off.

Thought id let it cool down overnight and try it again tomorrow.

Would appreciate opinions as to state of clutch / gearbox.

Its a 2.2dti manual by the way.

Cheers
Phil

Similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago - it worked after cool down but ended up with a having a new clutch and dual mass flywheel some months later.

If there was a burning smell expect some issues - you will have shortened life of clutch I think but depends on age/condition prior to your experiements

sounds like you have killed your clutch mate.
its not good at all to ride or let your clutch slip, it tends to have a bad effect on them.

Joke! Honest!  ;)

A replacemet friction plate & pressure plate was around £100 for my Astra if that's of any use. I've never done an Omega, (but done other RWD cars), so if you do it yourself you can save yourself the labour costs!
