As you can see mine is knackered...

I have a few questions though.
1) What does the flexi do? Why is it mesh like?
2) Can it be replaced with just a straight piece of pipe?
3) On old Senators de-catting was a good thing, is it worth de-catting mine?
4) I prob need to replace the flexi, does anyone have any links for parts? I tried eBay but all the ones i found went pipe-flexi-pipe, which is not really any good for me as the flexi goes straight into the cat :'( >:(
5) Looks like the replacement needs to be welded in? If so does anyone near me have a little bit of spare time next weekend to teach a student how to weld? ;D
In Exchange for beer tokens of course..... i do have a Keg of Desperados beer here fresh from Europe :y

It gives extra flexibility between the engine and body underside.
They are made of this braided material which is actually double-skinned, and it's far more durable than the old convoluted flexi-sections that were once quite commonly used.
Many motor factors now stock these braided sections, so you'd be wise to enquire. Oh, and yes, they need to be welded into position - sorry you're too far away from me to help on this.
I wouldn't replace it with a straight bit of pipe either, as you'll soon probably find that a stress fracture will occur maybe on the cat itself. The weakest part will then break-up next.
