Title: Cam belt fitting in Stoke on Trent
Post by: DZB on 06 July 2009, 08:22:44
Help!
I took my 2.5 V6 to a local garage on friday to have a cam belt kit and water pump fitted.  Now the once smooth tickover is rough and noisy (did not notice it when I picked the car up as it was raining).  I do not trust the garage to have another go at it as I am sure they have not fitted the cam belt correctly.  Does anyone know where in Stoke on Trent I can get the job done correctly?

Hang on a minute and I'll pm for you and point him to your post.  Edit: done

In the meantimg DO NOT start your car - it really does sound like they've bodged something

I would document what Loo Nee finds if and when he strips it down preferably with photo's then if anything untoward is found you will have evidence to demand a refund off the garage. Also ask the garage if they used a cambelt locking kit on it and if the answer is yes ask to see it . You would be surprised how many garages think that a Omega belt can be fitted without one. The truth is they can't properly.
The engine will run rough if it is a couple of teeth out any more and it goes into self destruct mode with valves hitting pistons

A mechanic near work says that a locking kit isn't necessary for doing the V6s. :(

He can now AFAIC stick to doing MOTs

I watched my mechanic strip mine down when doing the cambelt, he was horrified to see tippex marks on both banks of cams, not surprisingly they were way way out, 5 degrees as I recall :o

As I swapped the pulleys on 246 I repainted the marks!

Mine is very accurately timed

Check that they have reconnected the idle air valve plug, I have had this happen twice, just plug it in and it was OK.
