Title: Fuel economy improvement, 2.5 BMW TD
Post by: eversor6666 on 09 July 2009, 10:48:08
Hi all!
Just a general Q for the group.
Beyond the usual tyre pressures, carrying less cr#p in the boot, easy on the throttle sort of stuff, has anybody got any tips for improving the fuel consumption of the 2.5 TD?

Any ideas welcome!

Steve

Hi Sethsmate!
Service is a given.
Diesel magic?
Any specific chips available out there anybody recomends? Im not an electronics wizz, so it would have to be 'plug and play'.

Cheers!
Steve

chip it (if its a manual)

block off EGR

oil change

Spank the brass monkeys off it, drive it like you stole it.

Job done :)

Silly question, does blocking the EGR improve the mpg that much, I just replaced the EGR Pipe on mine, and have been getting around 45mpg, although only doing around 50-60 mph.

EGR?
What where and how? Its the Beemer engine, so no Haynes manual. Instructions or links to a "how to" if there is one would be handy.
Cheers!

I was under the impression that blanking the EGR made the economy worse? I thought it was something to do to increase power?

I could well be wrong though!

Nope. EGR helps with economy. Diesels use EGRs much more than petrols

Good Morning folks!
OK, EGR = exhaust gas recirculation?

Where do I find it, how do I identify it, and how do I block it (Guessing its as simple as a fold and tape job).

Cheers!
