Title: Alternator removal V6
Post by: bbacon on 03 July 2009, 05:54:29
Is there a maintenance guide to removing the alternator to check it out and/or repair?  I found DTM's brilliant guide on the repair but ot looks like two days work to r/r the thing. :D

Cheers,

BB

Removed my alternator last week so it could tested for a possible fault. One hour to take off, 50 minutes to replace, however no fault. Engineers report - "not even worth putting new brushes in as they are only 1/4 worn, all output figures as good as it left the factory". That is after 10 years & 157,000 miles.
Do not believe 'Haynes', it's a real pig to get to, from up-top, remove air filter box, then the 'pre volume chamber assembly, from below, remover 'undercover' for access', but due to the shape of the sump it has to come out from the top.
Good luck
