recently bought an X reg Omega. Not my first Omega but my first automatic. For the last month the car has been sitting on my driveway looking very pretty but not at all functional. The gearbox has decided that it doesn't like reverse, well it reverses very slowly but only on the flat and while revving the engine. I have tried filling the gearbox with oil and this helped slightly, but it is now looking like I need a new gearbox and someone in the South Wales area to fit it. Any suggestions??? I need someone reliable and who knows their stuff, local garages have not been wonderful with these cars in the past.

i had this problem it was due to perished reversing band due to the gearbox being flooded with water. :(
yes there is nothing you can do but get a replacement box.
as for getting someone to change it for you where in wales are you as i am in somerset. its not the biggest jobs in the world to carry out. (for a ladie i am sure the fellas might be able to help out ) are you mechanically minded?

Me too, small amount of water got in thru perished breather. Reverse failed first.

Crikey!
I half submerged the Traktor 2 years ago & while water did get into the selector switch (as well as all 6 cylinders) the gearbox was unharmed :o

its all about where your breather is. my old one was dead short and meny times i was under the car putting it back up (although at that time i didnt know what it was) the new box has the breather going all the way up into the engine bay and is secured above the radiator reserviour. water anit ever getting down that pipe again :y :y :y :y
