Title: Bolt on air filter HELP! Panel filter!
Post by: V-DUB on 16 July 2009, 21:25:38
Hi. Im in need of abit of help from you guys & I have the feeling you may have come across this afew times before.

Right I have an Air Flow Meter which is used on Omega 3.0 24v, Senator 3.0 24v & Calton too. I have no airbox & Ive been lookin for a bolt on air filter to fit to this has Ive just bought the wrong one. The bracket they've sent that goes between the air filter & AFM is alot smaller than what I need & since then Ive lloked & looked & it seems they dont make one for this model of car.

Can anyone help me here has Im really struggling.

Cheers.

Even with a proper straight six engine, you'd be better off sticking to original as it'll take cold air from outside & not hot air from under the bonnet.  :y

Yup, get yourself down to the scrappy & get an airbox, people on here have them for sale if you're stuck, even got one myself if you need it.  :y

Note what engine he wants the filter for! Not many straight 6's left in scrappys  ;)

I got a spare too.
Seriously, don't bother with "go faster" gimmicks. Nothing better than the standard set up. Plenty big enough and nice fresh cold air sucked in from the front, not warm engine bay air.

By the way, welcome to the OOF. Up-date your profile with car and location details etc :y

I understand what you are saying here with the cold air & I may have to go the original route.

I just wondered why they don't seem to make any bolt on kit for this 1. The 1 ordered is for a 3.0 12v 1987 -1990. I thought this might fit but is alot smaller plate. Every filter company Ive looked at dont supply for my spec upto 1994.

If any1 knows why or where I could get a bolt on for this application please let me know.

Probably don't make one due to the reasons given, no interest shown ;).

Because they don't do anything for the engine - in fact, they take horses away. Oh they might make a roar, but no real point in that if the lion that roars has no teeth, is there!
As Andy said, the air temperature has everything to do with it.
There's only one way to do fit a cone filter ('dangle berries' to what manufacturers or mates down the pub say) and that is to have the filter in a sealed box - to keep out engine bay heat - and run a cold air feed directly to this box.

To take it a bit further, I remember reading (years ago) all the available cone filters for the GSi Carlton were tested and none of them came close to a simple K&N replacement panel filter.
