Title: 2.5 V6 auto hunting revs between 1000rpm-2000rpm
Post by: sladey1985 on 16 July 2009, 03:15:53
hi i have a 1999 2.5 V6 elite estate auto and when i first start it she runs like it should 900rpm and runs nice but when it warms up it starts hunting between 1000rpm-2000rpm and when ive had a good run in it it starts stalling at traffic lights ive read up and people are saying about the auto gearbox but it still stalls at traffic lights when its in N so i know it nothing to do with the gearbox any ideas...? some people are saying clean the icv but im unsure what to clean it with what can i use...? and can this problem be the icv...?

More than likely the ICV, when did you last clean out the breather system?

Clean with carb cleaner, let it dry then oil the valve with a touch of 3in1 :y.

Clean ICV mate - use carb cleaner then lightly oil.  You may need to do it a couple of times!

The link below is for cleaning the breather system but I cannot find one for cleaning the Idle Control Valve on the V6 for some reason.  We did have one....  :-/

ime hbv is stalling issue. Hunting/high revs is usually air leak? But both possible icv related esp if its not seated correctly.
Remove icv, alloy mustard post top right/pass side of plenum(bit with eco tech on it), and spray with carb cleaner, allow to soak and then dry, oil as said and refit insuring air tight seal with the rubber gromet. Hth
