Title: how to change a 2.0 16V crank sensor

can't find anything in Haynes  :-/ and the guide on here is for a v6 :(

I know there's a lot of talk on the subject on the forums but i've hunted and can't find a how to!

really want to do it tomorrow morning, first thing going to the stealers for a proper part, then hopefully quickly whacking it in! It's painful to start me car at the moment!

how long do you think it'll take and pleeease a guide would be luverly  :-[

I found it quite easy sensor located towards front of engine on exhaust side behind ac compressor undo torx bolt remove sensor and replace.   I did have a 2post lift to help though so access a lot easier.

thanks :) i got ramps/axle stands and don't mind being on me back, so hopefully it'll be ok. Where does the cable run to tho? there's so many connectors! :-/
and which way did you run it, i've read the 'standard' way doesn't help the life of the cable.

ps any idea if it's covered in a haynes for pictorial help?

TBH i cant remember what way i ran the cable or where the connector is(it was about 3-4 years ago long before i found this forum). All i can sugest is follow the cable from the sensor and as for running the cable im not sure you get the same issues from the 4pot as the v6 .
I've just had a quick look through haynes and cant see it anywhere..
I'll have a look at mine tomorrow and repost if needed.

Does it have aircon?

If not - it's easy peasy.

If so - leave plenty of time, and watch your knuckles!

With aircon models, it's up behind the compressor, and is a mare to get to.

Best done by feel....

as you know james, my 2.0 has 'ice cold' aircon.

this job is horrible, fiddly and impossible!!

right. i'm off to newquay. in a Focus.  8-)

ringing up local mechanic to do the jobs i've run out of time and patience for!  >:(

An update just to this job:
The fanbelt had to come off, the aircon compressor was unbolted (but not disconnected) and the power steering pump was also unbolted. Then access was ok for the sensor! :y

The plug/socket arrangement had been modified on mine to allow both types of sensor to be inserted. We found out the hard way that part 90458251 (the expensive one)  was wrong and part 9174621 was needed. Weird huh!

Anyway, no more fault codes as yet and ok running for a short while (until the other problems caused by overheating manifested, but that's another story...) >:(


FYI The sensor isn't mentioned in Haynes, and the instruction for loosening/removing the aux/fan belt isn't very clear either.

Be prepared for this to be time consuming and fiddly and make sure you get the right part!

Think it's come from the radiator leak. i've mentioned it all in another thread! sorry for the delay in replying, i've just been to the eye hospital!
