I have a 1999 Omega 2.5td. The normal temp was 95 on the dial. 2 weeks ago it started to vary between 95 and 100. I had a trip up north booked to tow a trailer, but that did not happen as the trailer made the engine work very hard and it was quickly going for the red. Vauxhall dealers wants £50 an hour without knowing how long it will take to find the fault (Normally the response of beginners) Local garage said it's the fan, for it is spinning free when it should be locked, that didn't satisfy me for the fan does come on. I can hear the engine when the fan is running on the engine and when not.
I've tried several things, checking water levels - still normal, no leakage, no strange noises ie water pump. rev up engine and then it looks like temp going down when I rev up the engine above 3000rmp.
The other thing is, the engine is also taking longer to heat up from cold in the mornings.
Any suggestions or mechanics in the Walton-on-Thames area that anyone can advise me to.

Hmm not sure but two things worth checking.
Is there any oil in water (possible headgasket failure)?
Thermostat (controls water flow) maybe not working properly.
Hope someone else will be more helpful

silted up radiator is very common on td,!!!!
water pumps can and do fail regularly, with plastic impellor vanes breaking off
get a metal one as a replacement,
think in your situation i would change water pump and stat, and strong flush system??

had the same problem with my old tractor :'(
turned out that the radiator was bunged up with sh*t >:( replacing it and the water pump sorted it out :y not before i f**king split the top hose while towing the caravan though :-[ :-[
pull the pipes of the radiator and stick a hose pipe in the top and check the flow :y
it should pour out pretty quickly :y
