If it was one door I would say it was the solenoid, but being two, I suppose it has to be wiring. Have you disturbed anything lately? Have you got power to the doors (windows etc.)  Have you tried both switches?

Thanks for replying, i haven't done anything other than putting the child lock on.just checked the windows both switches don't work. am i just looking at a blown fuse?

I am sure front & back are on the same fuse, worth checking though.  ::)

Just looked, fuse 20 covers all doors - 20 amp yellow fuse. Fuse 7 covers rear windows - 30 amp.

Hmmm, sounds a bit technical, just to confirm then:-
Front windows work perfectly.
Rear windows will not operate with either switch.
Rear doors are both locked.
All fuses OK.
Sorry mate, I am not a lot of help.

Are the rear windows isolated by the switch on the driver's door?

front doors perfect
NSR Door perfect.
OSR Door problem.
Fuses fine.
All windows apart from OSR work on both switches.
Sorry if i wasn't clear before

Thanks

OK, so you have one door that does not open?
It does sound like a connection or a solenoid, probably the plug going into the door, (the one you need the door open to get to).

Whatever the problem is, the button should be able to be pulled up. It seems the door is deadlocked.
I did not read your first post right, thought it was two doors, sorry my fault.

always the way, do you know if you can force it open to check?

You will have to get the door card off, it may be damaged, but better than damaging a door, and cheaper to replace. With the door card off, it is a simple job to replace the solenoid, but if it is the wiring elsewhere, you would have to get the door open from the inside somehow. I hope someone on here has experience of this. You may well have to wait until tonight.

It sounds like the power to the door is dead.

Should the child lock prevent pulling the knob up? :-/
It would definitely help if you can get the door open - may need some force.

(your title says doors plural, hence some confusion)

no problemo - its just significant in diagnosing the problem.

Have you tried pulling up on the knob really hard (so to speak..  ::))
Title: Re: Rear doors dont unlock!!!!
Post by: Anthony on 15 July 2009, 12:09:18
yeah tried hard but it feels like something pulling it back down, if that makes sense, also tried pulling when using the fob but same results.
We have had real heavy rain down here and this door is facing the rain is it possible water has got in?

The rain should not get in contact with any electtrics inside the door, and the child lock has to be a coincidence. Good luck.

Coming in late on this thread, but all I can add is that when my passenger solenoid was dying it would frequently completely lock up the door, with the button absolutely refusing to come up, no matter how hard pulled, just like in this case.  Then, on numerous occasions, it would suddenly come back up when unlocking the rest of the car, especially after sitting unused for a couple of days.

Therefore it may be worth leaving it at the moment, using the rest of the doors as normal, but if you can leave the car unused for a couple of days (over a weekend was best for me).  When it does finally 'pop up' that is the time to either fit a new solenoid, or take the door card off so you can always get to the mechanism to unlock manually.

 ;) ;) ;)

Thanks Lizzie, sounds good. I am baffled about it going into "Deadlock Mode" though.

Thank you all again i'll see if it pops back up and fix it then.

ok so i've just been sitting in the car with nothing on, i've tried the windows and i am getting a faint buzzing but no movement in the windows.so i guess that it is a elec supply problem. does this sound right?

might sound strange this but is the speaker working on the offending door ?.

from what you say ........ door is  dead locked / windows inop. ( both these are on totally differant electric circuits )

all the above go though a multi pin plug that conects the electrics to the door loom.

pull up the carpet / remove the plastic trim around the "b" pillar. ( thats the one with the front seatbelt in ) and see if you can find the loom that goes through to the door and trace it back through the car  :y

it sounds to me that its a electrical problem and all the elecrics for that door goes through that loom / plug  :y

if everything failed at one then it has to be a place where all the circuits meet  :y

A long shot but have you tried using your key fob to lock / unlock the doors with the ignition turned to position 2?

I found this solved a similar snag for my car the other day after finding the battery completely flat having been stood for 4 months.

it may sound very strange but my front passenger door has the same locking problem and occassionaly, as now will not open. pulling the knob up manually is impossible.
how  ever i use a pair of pliars and pull it up.
it sounds drastic but works and does not appear to do any more harm.
waiting for new solinod to replace the current one

For me e.ray that was the answer without question ;) ;)

I don't think its the lock solenoid at fault as the electric window is also not working.

had problems with my locks last week  :'(

if you recycle the locks using the key ( too deadlock ) a few times, it should sort its self out like mine did  :y

if you have pulled the wires around and now things are starting to work then thats your problem  :y

try dissconnecting battery and reconnect again after a few secs and see if it will manuallly unlock, mine did this a few years ago, mine locked me out and sun roof opened, could not open doors with key as it was dead locked, when connected battery it let me open dorrs again with no dead lock on must have reset doors, but don't forget to reset windows and roof  :y

Tried this and still no joy :'( :'( :'(

Also volt checked the battery and it only has 12.4V. i think i remember that anything less than 12.6V meant a flat battery. i looked at the sight glass thing on top and it is black. could this be part of the problem.

Did you check the battery with the engine off? If so that is a good value.

Did you try my suggestion? It'll take you only a few seconds and it is free......
