Title: Play in the steering
Post by: Ryan Hegarty on 18 July 2009, 23:00:29
I'm having probs with unresponsive steering, car is all over the road with lots of play in the steering, checked steering idler for movement - seems ok, have you any other suggestions, I've checked wheels for tightness and all bushings seem ok, could it be the steering box?
Appreciate all your help.

Is there any play when you are standing still and move the steering wheel? you need to check that the steering axle from your steering wheel is thight, and locate the "play" if not...

You can adjust the play out of the steering box, there is a locking nut with an allen key in the middle ontop of the steering box. Make sure you turn the allen key small turns until the play has gone.

Lift engine hood and locate steering box (drivers side) adjustment screw on top of steering box, you have to loosen locknut first and adjust it a little at a time until you find the play going out of steering - as Sport said have steering at full lock and have engine running when checking for any play. :y
