Title: not starting normally
Post by: Bojan on 20 July 2009, 07:37:04
Hi everyone!

I have a problem with omega MV6 (my 96, X30XE).
It doesn't start the engine normally. When I turn the ignition key, it crancks a bit longer than usually, and when he finally ignites, it seems like it is not working on all cylinders (maybe 2-3), works below 500 RPM, and it will not rev up (pressing the accelerator pedal results with NOTING).
Then I turn the engine off, and then turn it right back on, and it works perfectly.

This strange behaveiour started few weeks ago, and it would manifest only if the engine was hot and the car was under strong sun light (temp very high). Now it happens almost every time I start the car.

What could be the problem?

Important: I have an LPG installation.

ps. sorry for my english.

1st thing is to look at the maint guide index and perform the paperclip test, that will tell you if any sensors (eg crank sensor) are playing up.

After that, is the car well serviced?  all filters clear?  air & fuel? breathers and idle valve clean?

As Jim says, paperclip test will hopefullt bring something back. THe crank sensor is sounding the favorate, but wait until you know that for sure before parting with cash.

car is very well maintained.
perhaps the fuel filter could be changed.

It seems to me like some sensor/electrical fault.

if crank sensor is faulty, can I expect it to die out totally soon? would that make my car unusable?

if it is the crank sensor, then yes it will cause total breakdown, without lighting the EML light!

so do the paperclip test, and report back any codes  :y

As above, do the paperclip test first and post the results or look in the guide for the codes.

thats what I thought too  ;D  :-?

1200 quid fitted is a good price if thats a main VX dealer. They wanted almost double that for a pump when I asked them (2 years ago) - and that was NOT fitted!  :o

i did not do the paperclip test yet, but I'll get the codes read tomorrow (for free).

meantime: I have tried to switch it on gasoline mode before starting engine, and it starts normally. When I try to start it in LPG mode, it doesn't start normally (when in LPG mode, it starts on gasoline, and switches to LPG when engine warms up).

ok,just did the paperclip test, and no codes flashed.

just flashed 3x(1-2) and then again 3x(1-2). that means no faults.
