This pops up on my display, since I have no user manual not sure what it relates to. I also have chk break lights when I start up, I press the brakes and it goes away - is this normal? Sorry for the daft questions , have to get a manual asap :-[

You brake lights are doing a check when you press the pedal, when the message disappears all is well! It's when it does NOT go away that you have a brake light out!
Field vision could be one of the level sensors on the NEAR side of the car, there's one on the front wishbone & another on the rear radius arm. It could also be the level motor in either of your headlights, ideally you need a code reader (TechII) to determine where your fault is.

Several problems can be the cause for this message.
1. Small metal arm on the front or back sensor has poped off.
2. Headlight leveling motor (left or right) is dead.
3. Headlight sensor is dead.
Nr 1 is the most usual thing but nr 2 & 3 happened to me.
"My Naff Code Reader" or tech2 will report the errors but you can check the first thig yourself . This is described in details how to do it somewhere on the forum but forgot where

3. Headlight sensor is dead .......
Thee are two of them! Front & back. :y
-
Yep Andy you're right. Front one was dead on mine.
-
The arm dropped out of my front sensor, worn joint. Popped it back in, an hour later it came out again.
Took the stealer 3 weeks to get mine, there wasn't any in the country at the time.
Had to put up with the message in the mean time and possibly dazzling everyone at night :o
Had to come from Germany

Spot on matey! Thanks a lot! I've been plagued with Headlight field / vision message on the MID and low, very low beam for the past month and i already had had a look at the front sensors / connectors / headlight leveling motors, and everything was tested fine. And when I looked at the rear sensor, guess what? The arm had popped out! I popped it back in, and it's back working fine again!
Thanks Andy!

Indeed, is a result! And cheers again for that Andy. Ah! I love my mig :y

Has it had a replacement MID (these MIDs are reliable, so no idea why it would have?)
Remember, guys, no 2.0l prefacelift ever came with HIDs ;)

I did note the engine size & age of the car, but assumed John knew what was fitted to his car! ;)
-
Andy, It actually looks like it has HID's fitted?? Would that matter. As i said on another thread, I inherited the motor and am clueless about miggy's.... but getting to like the drive. ;)

now im confused again, my main headlights are a blueish light(xenon?), full beams are halogen i think, parking lights are regular bulbs.
The xenon ones look like there held in by cardboard....some diy aiming :-[
