or whether the solution is simple but recently during the heavy rains the ABS and traction control lights came on only to go off arbitrarily, however, on friday both lights came on, stayed on and were accompanied by a speedo that didnt move despite car starting, stopping and running smoothly
Any ideas or help appreciated.
Thanks all in advance.

abs ecu either kaput or on its way .. :(
Several threads around discuss this .. including
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152729807
the options are AFAIK
1. new from Vx ... around £300 + VAT
2. refurb ... around £150
3. Second hand .... around £50
new definately also needs a visit to a Tech2 to calibrate, second hand might, if you can get one from same car/engine it should be OK but might need a Tech2, refub should be OK as it is still "yours" ...

Is the car ok to drive, firstly and secondly if it isnt, it appears refurb is the way forward, any recommendations on who or where?
Thanks for the link but i`m no diy bod and that seems like an inordinately tricky job.

Legally, you can't drive without a working speedo... but just how will a copper check ?? :)
When mine went it was intermittent but slowly getting worse, t'was verily a pain .. :( The steering being intermittent was the worst, and IMHO, the only dangerous bit.
I went to bba-reman Tel : 01634 687222 and was extremely pleased with what I got, refurbed on a 5 day turn-round, 2 year warranty, £135, this was just over 2 years back, and I have said so (often) in the forum.
I must state however, that some folks who have had recent dealings have not been quite as ecstatic as me, I'm not saying why, as I don't know the full (both sides) story... I would certainly use them again .. there are some who would not.
The actual job of changing is not hard .. its only 6 bolts .. but its damned fiddly as the access is poor and you work blind.

They're not MOT'able though! ;) :y

When mine went, I left it at the MOT centre all night as it didn't come on when it was cold ;D Luckily it passed got it changed after that mind you :)

lol, thanks but my vocation is medicine, i`m not a mechanic by any stretch and even the author of that appears to be putting people off. I would probably end up disconnecting something that i shouldnt have. ;D
Much rather buy a refurbed one and have some idea if i`m having my trousers pulled down when i head towards my local garage and ask em to switch them over.

Not hard mate, I mean I done it :)
6 Screws I think 5 come out fine, 6th is a right bugger but I didn't have a bendy screwdriver but now I do which i'm sure would make it a lot easier :y

stick your location and car type in your profile .. there are several members who do "mobile" work and come very highly recommended.
They will be cheaper, and do a better job, then any garage

he appears to need to remove half the engine bay though, if youre saying it literally is unscrewing 6 screws then i`ll give it a go but he`s talking about PAS etc. I dont want to start creating more problems then i`m solving but youre making it sound easier then i thought. Where is this ABS ECU roughly and what does it look like, is it labelled?
-
right hand side of the engine as you look at it, 2/3 rds of the way back .. has a whole load of hyrdaulic lines going into it .... as it uses these to control the brakes ..... The PAS reservoir and a few other bits just makes access difficult, and the bolts are a tad hidden .. there is certainly at least one member (and maybe more) who is driving around with only 5 bolts holding the thing together .. :) (and NO it's NOT me .. :) )
-
so all ive got to do is literally unscrew and it pops out, what happens to the hydraulic lines
-
You only disconnect the ECU ... the main valve body stays where it is :)
-
cheers, will give it a go, will vauxhall refurb the ECU as I have a dealer a stonesthrow from me, otherwise will give this company you mentioned a call, unless of the top of your head you know anyone in or near the southampton area.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Of course not! A dealer only wants to fit NEW bits at a cost! A HUGE cost!!!

I kinda realised as soon as i clicked submit that it was a dumb question ;D
