Title: HBV: where is it an what does it do?
Post by: NiallyV6CDX on 27 July 2009, 13:51:26
Where is the HBV located and what does it do?
It was reccomended that I replace it while the top of my engine is stripped down to save work in the future, but I can't find anything about in the haynes manual and don't really know what I'm looking for/how to do it! :-/
Any advice on this one?

It is straightforward to replace, costs about £35 with trade card, but due to it's location at the back of the drivers side engine bank it is awkward to work on, and you need to remove the wipers and scuttle to access ;) ;)

PS It regulates the flow of water between the engine and the heater matrix ;) ;)

Thanks Lizzie, yeah I guessed it was something to do with the heater. Actually because my manifolds and cam covers are off ATM I can get to it fine without removing the wipers + scuttle tray :)
Cheers :y

HI all

Price at dealer £ 43.01 + VAT. :-? Needs pay and wait to come.

Just replaced mine last week and got from ebay for £16 including the carriage. A lot of work but is done. :y  Easy if you disconnect heather hoses.

There have been a lot of bad reports on here about non genuine HBV's.

They may be cheap but you take a chance with them :-/

Experience on here suggests that will not last long I'm afraid, unless it is genuine GM! ;)

I would strongly advise you to obtain one by joining:
