Title: Power Steering

hey i have a 97 mv6 and the power steering is really annoying me! the power steering only seems to work when i rev the engine, and if its just idling the steering is as heavy.

can anybody help?

Pump is probably on its way out. There are breakers here who'll be able  to sort you out with a 'new' one!  :y

i Have the same issue but mine is intermittant.... some days works perfect others heavy as a tractor!

also seems clunky & knocky when stationary...

& sometimes on a rounderbout etc doesnt return to center...

what maybe the issue.... pump... fluid need changing... airlock...

Help please..  :(

what maybe the issue.... pump... fluid need changing... airlock...

I was told when this happened on mine to try changing the fluid due to intermittant fault as it might clean out any sticking parts?
Can't remember exactly what was said. always good to try the cheaper option before changing parts but as Andy says there are plenty of breakers on here.  :y

is it easy to change the fluid?? where would i find the drain plug if fitted?? any body fancy giving me a hand??

Drain the reservoir and fill with fresh fluid.

Disconnect the return pipe and place into an empty container.

Run the engine and steer lock to lock whilst keeping reservoir topped up as required until the fluid going into the empty container changes to colour of new
