Hey all, I'm looking to buy another Omega soon, and looking at the 3.2 Manual Estates.
As these are all ex-police they don't seem to be listed on any insurance company's lists, so I was just wondering how they are insured? Are they insured as standard vehicles or are they insured as a modified MV6 Automatic with a gearbox conversion etc. or something similar?
Sorry for the stupid question ;D
Thanks :y

Unless it shows as modified on the logbook i wouldn't have thought it would make a difference :).

Ah OK I'd had problems trying to get quotes online because when you select the vehicle you can only select the 3.2 MV6 as an automatic so cannot get a quote for a manual, and seems to be the same on all sites I try.
Maybe I'll try calling a few and see what they say.

Hi mate, I had the same problem when I got mine. Basically, have a look around, get the cheapest quotes, & then give them a ring, explaining that the vehicle has a manual gearbox. They might huff & puff about it, but they can do it 'manually' (or the old fashioned way!!). It means they have to do a tad more work, but remember it's a buyers market. I've had good insurance through Admiral, Tesco, The Post Office etc. So far, no probs. If you do mention it's an ex police car (you don't have to, unless they ask), make it clear to them that the car is absolutely standard, and that they are unmodified (also make them aware that there is no leather etc).
Hope this helps.

What does it say on the Log Book?, If it says Manual just tell the Insurance Co its a Manual and there Data Base is wrong. Dont bother telling them its Ex Police its just going to confuse them.

I would agree bang on with that - I made that mistake the first time I spoke to insurance company about it, & I was on the phone for ages trying to sort things out.
Just make sure you have the logbook to hand when you phone. You shouldn't have any probs

Just a further thought - it should be down as a 3.2 or 3.0 V6 SPECIAL. That's what I told them - as I said before, they should just be able to do it as a 'manual' certificate.
Any probs, tell 'em you'll send the boys (& girls) around!!
-
you should not have any problems - and it should be no more expensive than a non-police version - tesco are great if you have some years no claims :y

Thanks for the help all, seems like a friendly community, hopefully I'll be back in an Omega soon :)
On another note, does anyone have a contact email for simon_pvs ? Was planning on contacting him this week but his profile seems to have vanished :-?
Cheers :y

3.0 were classed as MV6 whether they were ex plod or not :y

Didn't realise that mate - sorry for unintentional error. Anyway, lets just keep fingers crossed all goes well, and another enthusiast gets behind the wheel of another omega! :D
