While driving behind other car, few stones made 4 or 5 cracks on my windscreen. Do you know what will the insurance company do? Will they ask me to pay for each crack fixture (4x£15) or just one £15 or will they advice to replace the screen?
This is a heated screen so pretty expensive to replace, thus I would rather fix it.

Heated windscreen? aftermarket job?
I guess 1 repair excess (presuming repairable)
bet they wont pay for a new heated screen, only a standard, unless you have specifically asked them to cover it.

Cant repair a crack only a chip im afraid if your fully comp you have to pay the excess if your third party you cop for the lot

visit auto glass they can view the damage and your policy and advise from there and wont affect your policy. Would think they would replace. Mine was £70 excess iirc. Did i good job too imho.

Autoglass' Basingrad branch do a good job (they're behind B&Q in Lister Rd)

Omegas don't have heated front screens Marcin. :-/

Speaking of windscreens... I had to use RAC Auto Windscreens last year as they were the only company my insurance would deal with. Not too bad a job but the trims didn't sit perfectly :( :( :(
Anyway, trim came off over the weekend so called them up and was told it's a 3 year warranty so they came out today and the guy just decided to fit a new screen, complete with trims FOC :y :y :y
Better still, it's a much better fit :y :y :y
So, a rare thumbs up for Auto Windscreens who are now nothing to do with the RAC :y :y

Thanks for all your replies. Yes, those ace chips not cracks (although some are only chipped glass, some are small cracks – 4-5mm diam).
It’s not for the Omega, unfortunately I had to sell it, it’s for my Focus (I am a responsible father now, so have to think about fuel efficiency and costs ;) ).
I had my Omega screen chipped and it was done with £15 excess by AutoWindscreen – they did a very good job. My insurance company only deals with AutoGlass and AutoWindscreen directly so that I only have to pay £15. I had to choose but found many complains about AutoGlass and saw what they did with a friend screen so decided to go for AutoWindscreen and it was really quick and high quality – my wife could not find it.
I am only concern if my insurance will ask me to pay £15 for each chip (x5 chips) in Focus, or will they replace the windscreen. I even don’t know if a heated screen can be repaired as it requires drilling which might damage the wire.
As far as I remember, insurance policy includes windscreen replacement to original quality, thus if it was fitted with this type, it should be replaced with one. That’s why there’s always a question if the car was modified in any way and if not, they will only cover what’s standard.

I was told that if it's 3 or more chips, then the screen needs to be replaced. It's 5 in my case...
Has anyone tried those repair kits from e-bay? http://www.crackattack.co.uk/how-to-use-it.php
I know that professional chip repair involves drilling, but in this case it will damage the heating wire.

Iing to say with that amount of chips, they will replace it. A mate of mine had his "Dagenham Dustbin" heated screen replaced, with a heated one. I have had chips repaired myself, but never seen them drilling, Even if they repair all the chips, I am sure there is no excess to pay.
-
i think you will find if it cannot be repaired .ie five chips or small cracks will weaken the windsceen so would think they will replace it with a simalar screen i,e, old for new! :y and you will have to pay the excess .hope this helps

For every chip there is a £10-15 excess and ca £60-70 for replacement thus it's worth asking for these kits than spend £70.
I am sure all chips are drilled before filling. Dont know if this is to help resin to get where it needs or to avoid cracks spreading around.
Have you fixed your screen with DIY kit? How does it look now?
