Title: Facelift 2.2DTi turbo replacement
Post by: V8S on 29 July 2009, 19:40:12
Hi all,

Long time since I've been here, but that is good news in one way - no problems with the Omega! :)

Anyway, I now have a worn turbo that is whistling happily away and have been told it's not really repairable and I would need a new one. Been quoted £450 for the turbo, £100 fitting.

Any ideas of the best place to get one and what part I'm looking for?

I would also like to attempt replacement myself - how big a job is this? Any tips?

Thanks in advance, chaps. :y

Dont know about turbo for migs, but I know they can be tricky ones, very easily damaged if not fitted correctly.
I think it is better to pay for the fitting of this part than to attempt it yourself cause yuo can end up buying another one soon

I've changed a few turbos, one on an Isuzu Trooper 3.1td and a couple on 2.0litre Turbo Rovers. If the garage only wants £100 for fitting that seems very cheap, although £450 is a bit excessive for the part IMO. It's a simple enough job to do but a complete pain normally due to the huge amounts of heat involved in turbo operartion, the bolts are normally a complete pig to undo and in a fore-aft mounted engine you may have some accessibility issues.

Access to the turbo on a 2.2DTi seems quite good as its mounted quite high up.

Indeed, not a difficult job.

I have used Midland Turbos in the past for re-furb (200-300 quid) and they have been excellent.

I would be wanting to know the reasons for failure as they rarely go!

Turbo oil seals normally isn't it?

Possibly....but why?

On a recon part you can often ask for a report on the failure
