... and loss of fluid. I've been told that the garage will need to strip down the manifold to access the various hoses. Is this true? What do you think the problem is? The garage say they don't think it is a heater bypass valve as the water doesn't shoot out.
The heater matrix has already been replaced, as has the radiator, water pump etc over the last couple of years. The cylinder head has been pressure tested and all is well. Urgent advice needed!

Heater by-pass valve lives at the back of the driver's side of the engine bay. Is your leal affected by puttng the air/con off or on? My leaking HBV didn't shhot water out either time it needed replacing. :y

To get to the hoses at the rear of the engine you do have to remove the Plenum but that will only take 15 minutes.

The dealer initially wanted 3 hours labour at £72 an hour so I phoned around some other main dealers. Guess what? They wanted 0.9 of a unit so I challenged the garage on this. They said it couldn't be done so I collected my car. One hour later, I got a phone call from the dealer to say that they were very, very sorry and that they had made a mistake and would reduce the price even further.
What a sad situation. A main dealer I have been using for years was prepared to through away my business just like that. Previously, they have been brilliant and charged me very little even for extras.
Is the recession driving garages to this?

Sounds like the cooler plate or thermostat housing :y

It was the T connector on the HBV but I got them to do the lot. £149 including antifreeze. Not bad when the original figure quoted was nearer £400. Thanks for all the advice!
