Had this very same problem for a few months, thanks to the internet and people on this site it was the 2to3 solenoid, replaced it together with new fluid and a filter clean, cannot believe the difference, many thanks to all. 158k miles

I have a 35 from mutantcav in the shed as insurance, but I really don't feel like changing the box myself or paying a ludicrous amount to a mechanic, most of whom won't touch autos. How was 2/3 solenoid identified as faulty? Tech 2? I also have a Jpat gasket set as I had intended to swap the atf but never got round to it.

have you checked the atf level in the box?, but going on the mileage yours has done if the original box i would say its probably time to bite the bullet & change the box if atf level is o,k, i know only too well what a heavy job it is but not difficult, once done youll be glad of it,  :y
