would anyone be able to tell me if the diff off a 98 plate mv6 would be the same as a 2.5

probaly normal , LSD are not standard fit to MV6

All diffs will fit, physically, but there are quite a few different ratios depending on engine/gearbox combinations.

You have a 2,5 engine, so the replacement should come from a car with same engine and gearbox if you want to maintain the original ratio. Of course it is a good opportunity to make the car accelerate better with a higher ratio diff or achieve better mpg with a lower ratio...

IIRC there is a list of ratios on this forum but I'm so bad putting on any links...  :-/
