Title: facelifting a minifacelift
Post by: humbucker on 10 August 2009, 08:24:12
to turn your mini/pre facelift into a facelift, appearance wise, is the requirement bonnet, wings, rear quarters and bootlid? (then accompanying bumpers and trim obviously). will these bolt on directly to the other existing parts and sit comfortably?

rear quarters aren't bolt on iirc.

Might also introduce insurance issues.

The effort and cost involved, just buy a facelift if thats what you want.

I did this and changed only the following:

Bumpers (replaced)
Side strips (replaced)
Skirts (sprayed)
Grille (cut to fit)

Pictures are down due to my domain renewal being messed up but should be back soon.

just being curious. friend had a prang in his minifacelift and instead of replacing panels like for like we started talking about the feasability of replacing with facelift panels as he said he could get hold of some at a reasonable cost.

so will a facelift bonnet, headlights, (and i guess bumper and under light strips) fit without having to change the wings? didnt know if the cut outs for the lights in the wing were a different shape or size?

You can keep the original wings. For the front end (as already stated) you'll need:-

Bonnet
Slam Panel
Headlights
Front Bumper

Then all 4 door strips and a rear bumper to finish it off. It would be too much work to change the rear lights as you'd have to cut a chunk out of the rear quarters and weld in a new section to suit.
