Title: valve timing on 97 omega wagon
Post by: necolay24 on 15 August 2009, 06:43:53
How do you set valve timing on a 1997 Opel omega wagon V6, the engine is a 2.5i L X25XE, where are the timing marks located on the cams and crank sprockets?

There is a little mark, one on all four wheels were the timing belt goes on, they must be lined up with four marks on the cylinder head, you must also line up the crankshaft wheel the same as above, it is a lot easyer to use a locking tool to change the belt though,

It is ESSENTIAL to use the locking setting tools ,if you dont have them, dont attempt to change the belt. :y

It's maybe essential to use a cam locking kit if you want the timing spot on, but it's not impossible to get somewhere near without one! ;)

But is it worth wondering if it is near enough or if you are going to have bent valves??? :D

lets put it like this, i tried it without & nearly lost an engine, if it wasnt for a kind member i would have been in the sh*t. i now have a kit & changed my belt on the cdx yesterday. all went well. do NOT attempt without a locking kit. IMHO. :y
