Title: Wrong Tyres?
Post by: Rockhampton on 17 August 2009, 12:06:35
I've just noticed that my Omega appears to be fitted with the wrong tyres on the front! I bought it two weeks ago, and have noticed a bit of vibration at about 40mph, so decided to check the pressures - close inspection reveals that the front tyres are 205/50 16 whereas the rears are 255/55 as specified in the handbook - looks like the previous owner cheaped out or go ripped off when he replaced them!
They'll have to wait until at least next payday now before I can change them (although they are fairly new they are Korean ones) - just wondered if anyone else had seen anything like this?

Both those sizes are fitted as standard equipment on verious spec of Omega.
The 205s normally on the 4 cylinder models, the 225s on the V6s and higher spec models, although normally only one size on the car at a time! ::)

Its nothing too dangerous although it will probably make your handling more understeery, so might be wise to get them back to 225s allround at some point. :y
Vibrations just mean the wheels need rebalancing.

Thanks for that - more irritated with myself for not noticing and knocking some money off! >:(
I don't like having tyres mixed up, so I'll get some nice proper ones in about a month or so!

Where do you live mate?? Might be able to do you a swap...I have a couple of good 225/55/16's here and the 205/50/16's would go on the Zafira :y

Wrong. 205 tyres should be 65 profile and 15 inch, not 50 and 16 inches as Rockhampton has.

So, basic setup has been 205/65/15 and/or 225/55/16. Some four-pots were fitted with 195/65/15 and some of the newest higher-end models with 235/45/17

Had a thought...2 tyres can be sent by parcelforce 48 for £11 using senditnow.com so I could send you the 2 tyres I have...then you send the smaller ones back when they have been swapped over?? :y

So what size does the hand book say the fronts should be?

I'm assuming the 255 is a mistype of 225? :y
